ProfileMalcolm Corden
Tenor Saxophone
Malcolm still remembers his audition to join the RAF School of Music. He successfully auditioned on cornet but, after completing his 6-week basic training, he arrived at RAF Uxbridge to be told "We're full up with cornet players, here's a clarinet". During the first week of service with the Southern Band of the RAF, Sgt Gordon Harrison invited him to church. Apart from being impacted by the Good News at The Salvation Army in Bedford, Mal met his future wife Margaret. He played percussion with Bedford SA band performing clarinet and saxophone solos during festivals and weekend campaigns. Over the next 19 years, Mal served in RAF Germany and with The RAF Central Band where he was a regular sax player with the RAF Squadronaires. He retired from RAF Music Services in 1991 after 22 years taking up a role that he’s still involved with as a sales and marketing agent for several publishers and suppliers to the Christian retail trade. Mal and Marg now worship at Holy Trinity Hazlemere.
