ProfileNorwich Citadel Band

Bandmaster Richard Woodrow

Norwich Citadel Band was formed in 1882, when General William Booth visited the newly opened Salvation Army corps (church) in the city and commanded his new converts to “get a drum and rouse Norwich from one end to the other”. His directive was acted upon immediately and instruments were purchased. Within a matter of weeks Norwich Citadel Band was marching through the streets of the city, proclaiming the message of God’s love for all. Some of the Band’s current members can trace family roots back to those early days and, as a Band, we are rightly proud of our heritage. 135 years later, we still seek to use our music to rouse people: to wake them up, or cause them to be active or excited, according to one dictionary definition.

So we hope that this recording will indeed rouse you, as you listen! We hope that you will enjoy our music and that it will bring back many happy memories. We also pray that if those memories are reminders of service you used to give within The Salvation Army, you will be encouraged to think about what opportunities are available for you to re-commence that service, or to again make contact with a Salvation Army church or former friends and acquaintances.
