ProfileNorwich Citadel Band
Bandmaster Richard Woodrow
Norwich Citadel Band was formed in 1882, when General William Booth visited the newly opened Salvation Army corps (church) in the city and commanded his
new converts to “get a drum and rouse Norwich from one end to the other”. His directive was acted upon immediately and instruments were purchased.
Within a matter of weeks Norwich Citadel Band was marching through the streets of the city, proclaiming the message of God’s love for all. Some of
the Band’s current members can trace family roots back to those early days and, as a Band, we are rightly proud of our heritage. 135 years later, we
still seek to use our music to rouse people: to wake them up, or cause them to be active or excited, according to one dictionary definition.
