ProfilePhilip Wayman
Tenor Saxophone
Philip started his career as a saxophone player with the Royal Air Force in 1984 which provided a wonderful education in playing all genres of music from
transcriptions of classical orchestrations to big band charts in the Royal Air Force Squadronaires. Whilst serving at RAF Uxbridge he enrolled in The
Salvation Army at Hanwell Corps joining the songsters and the band, initially on tenor horn then 2nd baritone as well as trying his hand at euphonium.
Certainly, having this extra string to his bow has helped in a broader understanding of the wind and brass bands and has become invaluable in teaching
younger ensembles. Phil spent time at Maidenhead Corps, playing in the band under the leadership of Stuart Hall. After his career in the RAF, Phil
went into instrumental teaching although he enjoys lots of playing opportunities as well, mostly in musical theatre and local big bands.
